Bowman Field, Louisville, Kentucky
Bowman Field is North America’s oldest continually operated commercial airfield originally established back in 1919 by Abraham H. Bowman, who was drawn by the interest in aviation after WWI. The field became an outlet for Bowman’s passion, and he leased some form the US government, and developed it to be opened in 1921. The field began to attract attention with its first ventures being the aerial photography industry and the 465th Pursuit Squadron. Bowman field is also known for Charles Lindbergh’s landing of the Spirit of St. Louis in 1927 with 10,000 spectators attending.
