Shawnee Park Circle, Louisville, Kentucky
The 180 acre Shawnee Park was designed by no other than the now familiar Olmsted as well, and it is set on a low-lying plain of river bottomland, with natural slopes down to the Ohio River. The rolling surface of the park inspired Olmsted to plan one of his iconic loops around the park with flora lining the drive encircling the Great Lawn greensward. As is typical of Kentucky this expansive meadow provides a great location for recreation. The main attractions of the park’s scenery are the river views being the cornerstone of the original design, therefore the drive has five vantage points that are ideal locations for sightseeing.
