Portland Map

Portland is one of Louisville’s original constituent neighborhoods. Lying on the backs of the Ohio River on the west end of town, the river is Portland’s life and soul. Boats carrying people and freight around the Falls of the Ohio needed a port, thus Portland was formed as an independent river city. This gave it an economic boost early on, and because of this the area attracted many new residents among them many new Irish immigrants. Portland continues to be a commercial hub, with the same attraction to outsiders as it has had since its inception.
